Minecraft English - final evaluation
After yesterdays final lesson in minecraft english I did an evaluation with the students. I have also regrouped and reflected on my failures, and here’s a list of things I will be considering for my next course: Server, server, server! Before I start next time I will need to run some more tests with the server to make sure the hardware can take the amount of clients I need it to. Far too much...

Minecraft English session 4 & 5
Until now I have continued letting my students play a minecraft survival game. Most important here is still letting the students speak english to each other while playing. At the beginning of the 4th session I was happy to notice that students automatically started speaking english once they logged on to the server. Whats more is that most of them also used english when writing in the ingame...

Classroom minecraft - A learners log
I have now been working with Minecraft regularly in my lessons for roughly a month. When I first started doing my personal research, I made a note of examining my own learning process, to see how much effort would have to go into bringing this game to a classroom setting. The class is comprised of 10 young guys, 17-20 years of age. Several have actual learning disabilities and most of them, if not all, have had motivational issues when it comes to learning certain subjects. But by...

Minecraft maths
Here follows a brief account of a series of lessons I did using Minecraft classic, which is the free version available on minecraft.net.
It first struck me to use minecraft in maths while I was observing a specific student who was totally immersed in the game - to the extent that I had to pull him out of his game so he could participate in my lesson.
I chose to focus on the area of technical...
Hello World!
Here we go - first entry in my blog on digital games in education. In coming posts I will be sharing and documenting some of my experiences and findings from teaching with digital games. Look forward to reading about how Battlefield 2, Minecraft and Modern Warfare 2 can be used in an educational setting.
